YOUR FIRST SUNDAYWelcome to United Presbyterian Church. Thank you for thinking about joining us for worship on Sunday morning. We have two main entrances to the church. The first is in front and is handicapped accessible. There is also a rear entrance to the church, also handicapped accessible, which has a covered drive-thru to let passengers off who may have difficulty walking or if it is raining.Greeters are stationed at both entrances to welcome you to the church and answer any questions you may have. A Welcome Center in the gathering area outside the sanctuary with brochures, newsletters, and directions to the office, nursery, and bathrooms. Please stop by the Welcome Center and pick up a special visitor boomerang bag. These bags have some goodies in them as well as information about the church. The Welcome Center will be attended by a volunteer to help answer your questions and show you around. We would love to give you a tour of the church. Ushers are at the entrances to the sanctuary to give you a bulletin. We have main level seating and also a balcony. You can ask an usher for an assisted listening device or a children’s worship bag if your child would like activities like coloring sheets to work on during the service. A nursery is available during both services for children up to four years of age. During the year, September-May, we have two worship services. The 9:00 A.M. service is a more casual and contemporary service featuring a mixture of classic hymns and modern praise songs led by our praise band one way up. There is a Time For Young Disciples during the 9:00 service where the children are invited down front. The children are escorted to Rotation Sunday School following the Time For Young Disciples. You can meet your children after the service upstairs in the Sunday School room and then join us for fellowship. We have a time of fellowship with freshly baked cookies, coffee, and lemonade following the 9:00 service from 10:00-10:30 A.M. Also during this time Pastor Stephen teaches a Sunday School class called Eleven Minute Lessons. From 10:10-10:21 Pastor Stephen teaches on a short Bible passage that is part of a longer series. Last year the class went through the entire Sermon on the Mount over the course of a few months. Our second service begins at 10:30 A.M. and is a more traditional service with hymns sung with the organ, a prayer of confession, and other traditional liturgical elements such as the Gloria Patri. The Chancel Choir performs a prelude and anthem every Sunday at the 10:30 service. During the summer months (June-August) we have one service at 10:00 A.M. which features different music each Sunday performed by guest musicians, one way up, and the chancel choir. The pastors interpret Biblical passages for today and in their historical context using stories, cultural references, music, video, and more. You can hear and/or see some of their sermons by visiting the Sermon Archives page. You are welcome to attend either service. Attendance pads are passed during both services and we ask that you please fill it out so we can contact you and thank you for your visit. Each visitor receives a note acknowledging his or her visit. Following the service the pastors would love to shake your hand and get to know you. If you have any questions please visit the Visitor F.A.Q, explore the website, or contact us. |
