MEET CHRIS AND JENNIFER

In 2005, my wife and I returned to central Illinois, and were expecting our first son, Alex.  Neither of us attended church regularly as adults, but we were committed to finding a warm, nurturing environment where we could establish a sense of spirituality and community for our growing family.
We tried other churches, but none was the right fit.  Then we found UPC.  We met many friendly, “down-to-earth” people who made us feel welcome, but not pressured.  We enjoyed the mix of contemporary and traditional elements in the services, as well as the congregation’s diversity.  We found the Pastors’ messages connected with us on both intellectual and spiritual levels, and were relevant to everyday life.

Since our first visit, we have been blessed with a second son, Cameron.  Our relationship with UPC has grown as well.  Jennifer served on the Board of Deacons, while I recently completed a three-year term as an Elder on the church’s governing board.  We have been involved in numerous activities and committees, from Vacation Bible School for the children and the adult classes at Connecting Point, to social activities like golfing and supper clubs, we have discovered there is always something happening at UPC!
United Presbyterian Church is important to us for many reasons.  We have grown in understanding what faith means to us and how it plays a part in the decisions we make both as people and parents.  UPC is a wonderful place to raise our children, knowing they are safe, loved, and cherished by our wonderful church family.  We have many terrific friends because of the church, and have experienced first-hand how the people at UPC turn faith into action through their deeds, kindness, compassion, and willingness to “lend a hand” whenever needed.  We are excited to be part of this church as it continues to grow and help those in our community and around the world.
